Patterns: between Homogenous and Hetrogenous

For an initial research topic and a potential starting point on Mat buildings, I found patterns which can be developed from their current state and broken down into its most basic origins and then develope variations of one which can then have variations which then can be interpreted to read as a city or part of it....... Also included is the first draft of my statement of my city ideal, which will develop as I do!

This shows the developement of the patterns from the single chosen one which was brokendown then used to create variations
Most recent developement pattern consists of a plane of touching hexagons and along the centre point, alternating triangles are placed.

To test the patterns ability to be manipulated a stretch line is placed vertically and then the pattern is distorted along it . Aswell as this to change the patterns density and its rigid form, the bottom right shows multiple stretching technique to change the flow of lines to desired form.

A similar technique used and shown in more controlled manner with less distortion applied

Distortion of the pattern to give a 3d effect

These last set of patterns are all variations of the original, but hold certain problems like the ability to manipulate on a rule based system and also the loss of it overall pattern on which it is based. So it was back to the drawing board to look at the original and play some more.
